Wittnauer Electro-Chron Series Gold Minute Markers Open Hands

I have to confess that when I first saw my first early Wittnauer Electro-Chron, I had to have one. I had no idea what movement was driving it; I didn't care...those hands just did it for me!

I have a few Electro-Chrons myself, but over the last few years, I've met a couple of friends via the Internet who are avid Electro-Chron collectors, and with their help, we've been able to identify two distinct groups of Electro-Chrons: early and late ones.

All the Electro-Chrons use the first Swiss electric movement; the early ones had the Landeron 4750 while the later ones had the Landeron 4760. There is also a much rarer Landeron 4751 movement that is sometimes found in these watches. All three movements are virtually identical apart from a hacking facility on the 4751 and 4760. Read about these movements in the Landeron section of the site.

The watches do turn up from time-to-time on our favorite auction site, but literature on the Wittnauer Electro-Chrons is much harder to come by. However, I have recently come across two leaflets that not only give some insights into the early versus late Electro-Chrons discussions but also gives us a clue on what the correct bracelet was for these stylish watches. Use the two links on the left hand side to view scans of these leaflets.

Note: For details on the use of modern batteries in Landeron 4750/4751/4760 based watches, please see the relevant page in the Landeron section of this site.
