In 1973, Omega introduced the tuning fork Calibre 1220 and 1230 "Megasonic F720 Hz" watches to the Basle Fair. The calibre was developed by Max Hetzel, the inventor of the Bulova Accutron.

In the same year, Omega introduced the first analogue quartz watch fully developed by themselves : the Megaquartz 32 KHz. It was assembled in a modular way.
