Gruen made some fantastic watches in the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s. Their Curvex
range was a work of art! But like a lot of companies in the late 1960's / early 1970's,
they seem to have
lost their way and jumped on the fashion bandwagon. To read about this
interesting company, try
this excellent site.
The first four images below show two PUW based Gruens; the first house an electric
the PUW 1001 movement while the second one has the rare electronic PUW 2502 movement.
Next, we have a real rarity! The Gruen Electronic Jump Hour watch! Probably the
only watch to have used the ESA 9159 movement...and very hard to find today. This
one is in exceptional condition.

|
Fairly standand Swissonic type stainless steel back.
|
With the wheel complications instead of hands, this is a thick watch at 18mm.
|
Wears well on the wrist.
|
Cats love them!
|
From the balance side, identical to a standard ESA 9158 apart from the stamped "ESA 9159" in the plate.
|
Dial side is very different; you can make out the calander wheel on the left hand side then an additional brass plate to support the minute and hour wheels.
|
NOS ESA 9159 movements can still be found.
