There is a whole industry out there to help you produce a fake Spaceview! You can buy very high quality replacement hands, crystals and chapter rings. With these, you can then purchase a relatively cheap conventional 214, remove the movement, crystal, hands and dial. Throw away the dial and re-assemble using the new parts --- and you have a much more valuable Spaceview that you may be able to pass of as genuine!

So be careful...verycareful if you intend to buy a Spaceview. Things to look for are described on this site.

Having said all that --- I thought I'd have a go, and it turned out much more difficult that it should have been :-(

I started with a 214 Railroad Appoved with a rather scratched dial; removing the dial etc was easy but fitting the new chapter ring and crystal proved somewhat tricky and I ended up having to alter the case slightly on my lathe.

The moral of this story is that although all 214 s/steel cases may look identical, they are not! I believe this maybe something to do with Swiss versus US made ones.
